Compute and verify the MD5, SHA-1, SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512 Hash Value of any text string, disk file, or group of files!
The Get-FileHash cmdlet can generate hash codes for file content. It cannot generate hash codes for arbitrary text, though. And it is available only in PowerShell 5 and better. So here is a small function that uses the.NET Framework to generate MD5 hashes from any text.
A Hash Value is a sort of digital fingerprint, uniquely identifying each text string or file.If two strings or files have the same Hash Value, then they are virtually guaranteed to be identical.
Verifying KarenWare.com Downloads using Karen's Hasher- This makes an MD5 hash of every line supplied. It does so using javascript, so the hashing is performed by your browser. No information is sent out and this code can even be run offline by cloning the code from Github. Credit for hashing the information goes to blueimp/JavaScript-MD5. - WinMD5Free is a tiny and fast utility to compute MD5 hash value for files. It works with Microsoft Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista and Windows 7/8/10. As an Internet standard (RFC 1321), MD5 has been used in a wide variety of security applications, and is also commonly used to check the integrity of file, and verify download.
- The MD5 message-digest algorithm is a cryptographically broken but still widely used hash function producing a 128-bit hash value. Although MD5 was initially designed to be used as a cryptographic hash function, it has been found to suffer from extensive vulnerabilities.
- An MD5 hash is created by taking a string of an any length and encoding it into a 128-bit fingerprint. Encoding the same string using the MD5 algorithm will always result in the same 128-bit hash output. MD5 hashes are commonly used with smaller strings when storing passwords, credit card numbers or other sensitive data in databases such as the.

Known Problems
- Shell default launch for file extensions doesn't work on Windows 10 (added July 27)
Enhancements/Bugs Fixed
- Version 2.3.1: Task 51: Fixed 'Runtime Error 76 (path not found)' error
- Version 2.3: Made several changes to make program work under Windows Vista. These include an HTML-format help file, and changes to location where settings are stored.
- Version 2.2.1: Made program more compatible with hash value files made by some other software (that delimit data with space instead of tab).
- Version 2.2: Can now verify previously saved hash values, determining if the contents of files or folders have changed since the original hash values were computed and saved.
- Version 2.1: Now supports SHA-1, SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 algorithms, in addition to the original MD5.
- Version 1.0: This is the first release.
Calculate and change the MD5 hash for files
What's new in MD5 Hasher 1.0:
- Multi Threading support so no more hanging while hashing the +700MB files

As the name implies, MD5 Hasher is a program that allows you to find out the MD5 checksum of a file. It can be seamlessly handled, even by inexperienced users.
This is a portable software application, so installing MD5 Hasher is not required. In other words, you can save the tool to an external device (like a USB flash drive) and directly run the executable file on any computer.
Therefore, you can always carry MD5 Hasher with you when you're on the move. Plus, no items are left over in the Windows Registry or on the hard drive after deleting the tool.
The interface of the utility is based on a standard window with an uncomplicated layout. Files can be imported into the list by using the file browser, and you can add as many files as you want, since batch processing is supported.
The file queue provides the name, MD5 signature and location of each entry. So, you can select any two items from the queue and compare their MD5 checksums. MD5 Hasher also integrates a function to change the MD5 signature of one or more selected files (make sure to tick their boxes).
Md5 Hash Result
The tool runs on a very low amount of CPU and system memory, and has a good response time. The 'drag and drop' method is functional as long as you do not run the program with administrative rights. Other than that, MD5 Hasher's features can be effortlessly figured out.
